History of Basketball
The
person who invented the sport basketball was a man name Dr. James Naismith. It
was invented in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 20, 1892. Dr. James wanted
people to play a sport during the winter time so he created basketball. He took
two tall polls and nailed one peach basket in each poll. Then he put the polls
away from each other and grabbed a ball and taught others how to play. Most of
the rules Dr. James wrote are still used today but some have been modified or
new rules have been introduced. At the start people were still getting used to
the new game and didn’t quite understand the rules. The first game was played
for 30 minutes and the final score was 1-0. A man named William R. Chase scored
the first basket in the game. Over the years the game started to get popularity
and more people started to play. Today basketball is pretty much the same but
with a few rules added or modified. Now more people like playing the game and famous
players like Kobe Bryant or LeBron James have shown how much they love the
sport and influence others to like the sport.
