Thanksgiving Day History

Thanksgiving Day

During the 1700 century people from England to start a new life. The Plymouth colonist and the Wampanoag Indians had works together to destroy a different village that was bothering the Wampanoag villagers. In September of 1620 the Mayflower a ship from England carried about 102 passengers on the voyage to the Colonies. These people were looking for a place where they could practice free religion. This voyage lasted 66 days. When the mayflower arrived at the colonies most passengers had died or been recorded ill. Most of them stayed in the ship because of the harsh winter they had encountered. Time will have passed and the survivors from the first winter had seen their first spring in the new world. After this the pilgrims had tried to adjust to their new lives. These met the tribe Wampanoag and they helped the pilgrim learn how to grow crops. After the pilgrims will had grown a successful crop of corn and a man named William Bradford organized a celebration for the crop. He invited the Wampanoag tribe and together they celebrated, this happened in 1621. Years would have passed since the first thanksgiving and Presidents from the US had also celebrated this. Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill making Thanksgiving Day an official Holiday.
